MoneyWise Privacy Policy

In short

• Your financial data never leaves your phone. MoneyWise has no servers, no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, no ads and no trackers.
• We can't see your data. Nothing you enter or capture is sent to us or to anyone else.
• The Android app can't access the internet at all. It doesn't request Android's internet permission.

What the app stores, and where

Everything below is stored only inside MoneyWise's private storage on your device:

• Transactions: amount, income or expense, date and time, bank or wallet name, category, remarks, how it was captured, and whether you confirmed it.
• The original text a transaction came from (for example the bank SMS), so it can be checked or re-read later. Full account numbers are masked before saving, and only the last 4 digits are kept (for example ###4482).
• Your banks and wallets: names, optional last 4 digits of an account, and labels you choose. MoneyWise never asks for, or stores, a full account number, card number, PIN or password.
• Budgets, categories, recurring bills and savings goals that you create.
• Your first name, used only to greet you in the app.
• Settings, such as reminder times and, on Android, the apps you've told MoneyWise to ignore.

How transactions are captured

Automatic capture is optional. Every captured transaction is shown to you for review before it's saved.

• Manual entry: you type it in.
• Pasting text: MoneyWise reads your clipboard only when you tap Paste.
• Sharing (iPhone): when you share a bank SMS or a screenshot to MoneyWise from another app, it receives only what you shared.
• Shortcuts automation (iPhone, optional): if you set up the Shortcut, iOS passes the text of matching messages to MoneyWise. You control which messages it runs on in the Shortcuts app.
• Notification access (Android, optional): if you turn it on, MoneyWise checks notifications on your device for bank and wallet transaction alerts.
  • This check happens in memory. Anything that doesn't look like a transaction is discarded immediately, never stored and never logged.
  • Possible transactions are kept in the app's private storage until you open MoneyWise to review them. At most 50 are kept.
  • You can exclude specific apps. To show that list, MoneyWise reads the names of apps on your home screen. The list stays on your device.
  • You can turn notification access off at any time in Android Settings.
• Screenshots: when you pick or share an image, text is read from it on your device. MoneyWise keeps only the extracted text, with account numbers masked as above, not the image.
  • iPhone uses Apple's built-in Vision framework.
  • Android uses Google's ML Kit text recognition model, which is bundled inside the app. ML Kit is designed to send usage and diagnostic statistics to Google. MoneyWise on Android has no internet permission, so it can't send them, and your images and their text are never sent anywhere.

Permissions

Sharing

We don't sell, rent or share your data, and we don't receive it in the first place.

Data only leaves MoneyWise when you move it:

• CSV export: creates a spreadsheet of your transactions and opens your device's share sheet. Where it goes is up to you.

• Device backups: if your phone's own backup is turned on, the operating system can include MoneyWise's data:

  • iPhone: in your iCloud Backup
  • Android: in your Google account backup

  These backups go to your Apple or Google account, under their privacy policies, and not to us.

App stores

Apple and Google run the stores you downloaded MoneyWise from. They may collect information such as downloads, and crash reports if you've agreed to share those with developers, under their own privacy policies. We may see anonymous, aggregated statistics from them, such as install counts and crash rates. We don't see anything that identifies you.

Keeping or deleting your data

• Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete any transaction, budget, bill, goal or category in the app.
• Uninstalling MoneyWise permanently deletes all of its data from your device. Copies in your own device backups or exported files stay until you delete them.
• Because we hold no data about you, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete on your behalf.

Security

Your data is protected by your device's own security: MoneyWise's private app storage, your screen lock, and your device's encryption. MoneyWise doesn't add a separate app passcode. If other people can unlock your phone, they can open MoneyWise.

Children

MoneyWise is a personal finance tool for adults. It isn't directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date. If a change ever affects how your data is handled, we'll also say so in the app's release notes.
