Questions, answered
Who runs the treks, events and volunteering days?
Local guides, hosts and NGOs list them on Meerkat. Each listing shows who runs it, the dates, the price, the difficulty and how many spots are left.
How do trekking permits work?
When you join a trek that needs a permit, you add your permit details in the app. Your guide receives them securely, and ACAP, MCAP and GCAP permits are filed for you.
Does Meerkat track my location?
No. If you allow location, Meerkat uses it only to show the weather where you are. It is rounded to about 1 km before it is sent to MET Norway, and it is not stored on our servers.
I’m a guide, host or NGO. Can I list my activities?
Yes. Ask for a guide, host or NGO role in the app. Once it’s approved you can list treks, events or volunteering days, see who’s coming and who’s interested, and keep in touch with your group.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Settings → Delete my account. Your name, email, photo, contacts, stories and permit details are removed straight away. Posts, comments and reviews you wrote stay, credited to “Former member”, so other people’s conversations still make sense.
